Malt Advocate |
The Glenrothes (1989,
43%)
Amber gold color. Rich, honeyed malt in aroma. Quite floral,
with subtle notes of dried fruit. Full, rich body. Very malty
flavors, with notes of honeyed fruit up front, turning dry on
the finish with notes of oak, vanilla, and dried fruit.
Style: Speyside single malt scotch. Available
nationwide (imported by Skyy Spirits, 212/213-9777).
This distillery is one of Speyside's best kept
secrets, and this particular expression tastes much more mature
than its 11 years of age. The rich malty notes are especially
satisfying.

Glenrothes
1989/2000 (43%, OB, 70cl) - 80 points
Nose: Sweet and malty - everything you'd expect from a
good single malt. Maybe a hint of oil. Soft organics? It didn't
respond very well to water.
Taste: Sweet and malty. It also showed something that
reminded me of beer.

Dave Broom |
Nose: Sweet spices with toffee, banana,
cream, dried pear and fruit cake (sultana, raisin and cherry).
Complex and
delicious.
Palate: The spiciness comes right through from the
start giving a subtle lift to the rich fruits, light sherry and
ginger loaf.
Finish: Long and soft.
Comment: A very elegant, superbly balanced
middle-weight dram

The Glenrothes 1989 bott 00 db (76)
n19 t21 f18 b18. Cloakroomy, musty rainjackets, dusty
churches. Makes for an interesting nose, shame it's nothing like
as courios to taste. I think 89, with the odd exception here and
there, must have been a sub-standard vintage for usually
impeeccable distillery. 43% |
